Jizzy Pearl | Love/Hate | Ratt | Adlers Appetite | L.A. Guns | Quiet Riot | July 2005 |
I got a chance to catch up with Jizzy during this summers Rock Never Stops tour..
We drove to Orlando to conduct the interview...
Ratt's tour bus got lost for a couple hours, but in the end it was all good..
Jizzy has always been a great guy.. funny, and never takes his Rock N Roll lifestyle too seriously...
Today he released his new solo c.d. Vegas Must Die..
So here he is to tell you a bit about it.. and everything else that comes to mind..
J - First off when did you write this c.d.?
Jizzy - ummm. let me read off my press release.. April 2004 in a 3 week period..
J - In Vegas..
Jizzy - In Vegas.
J - After living in Vegas..
Jizzy - Ya... I lived in Vegas for a year, and had a relationship that went bad.. cliché as it sounds..what are you smiling and looking at her for..hahah..
J - Well on my way up here , I was saying id rather talk to him about relationships.. and all this other stuff instead.. cause I'm going through one now.. and I'm like bitches.. bitches.. I think that's what you should name the c.d...
Jizzy - Ya just call the record train wreck..
J - Bitches.. bitches...
Jizzy - So ya.. I went up in a room, and wrote most the record..
J - Did you do all the writing yourself..
Jizzy - Of coarse..
J - Did you play on it too?
Jizzy - ya but I'm not good enough to do all the wheedle wheedle shit.. so I got some other friends to sit down and do that stuff...
J - Any well known people we know?
Jizzy - Well the guy Pete, the guitar player, he was in that band Salty Dog.. remember that band?
J- Ya..
Jizzy - Ya.. ya.. I got introduced to him by Varney the record company guy, kinda like a blind date, you really don't know if its gonna work out or not.. but it came out good..
J - And Michael Lardie was on it too?
Jizzy - Well he engineered it and mixed it.. he ended up adding keyboards.. and wanted to do some bits and pieces on it, and it worked out good for me too.. cause I got him cheap!
J - How does this album differ from your first one?
Jizzy - Its better....haha
J - I think its rawer..
Jizzy - Actually this is my third solo album.. ya its just better, the writings better.. I think I'm a little bit more articulate in the lyric department, being able to express myself a little bit better..
J - what's your favorite song on the c.d.?
Jizzy - The ballad I guess.. "Lonely" that's a good song..
J - How about which one didn't turn out as good as you wanted..?
Jizzy - Well there's a song called "Only Wait So Long", which is kinda a bluesy thing.. and I couldn't... sometimes you just cant beat your demo..and that's just one that didn't beat the demo..
J - Any solo shows planned?
Jizzy - You guys all ask the same questions...
J - Well then talk about something else then....
Jizzy - Lets talk about my dick.. and its lack of attention over this month long tour..
J - Hahahah
Jizzy - Ya know I've got some things brewing.. in the fall, business related, and when I announce it, I think it will be pretty cool.. so as far as solo shows, I don't know what I'm going to do about that..
J - How about books?
Jizzy - I'm telling you.. big surprise.. big surprise.. my coming out.. so to speak...
J - hahahaha.. cool..
Jizzy - I knew you'd dig that.. hahaha it will be big news.. and it will be cool.. but I'm going to wait till everything is signed and sealed, then I'll be able to tell people about it, but ya it will be great..
J - How about Adler's Appitite.. still play w/them?
Jizzy - No.. no.. we parted ways.. everyone seems to be interested in that too.. coarse you wanna know why..
J - Sure
Jizzy - Just problems.. business problems, behavioral problems..
J - Did you have a good time w/them?
Jizzy - Ya I did for a while.. we toured in Europe.. and the songs are very strong in Europe.. lots of great audiences.. but then we started to strike out on our own, and started writing our own songs, there were certain ego things.. that I just didn't wanna deal with...
J - Are you doing any other side bands, or jamming with anyone else?
Jizzy - I've pretty much jammed w/everyone now haven't I.. no this thing is going to hopefully go till September.
J - This tour..?
Jizzy - Ya and maybe get extended a little bit.. then hopefully ill be working on this other as yet.. un named project..
J - Your coming out project.. hahah
Jizzy - Well.. I'm really going to regret saying that..
J - Hahaha.. I love it..
Jizzy - It has more then one meaning as we both know.. but ya.. hopefully ill be working on that, and all next year as well..
J - How's this tour going so far?
Jizzy - Good other then us getting lost, a lot of driving, and now that we are on the East coast, the drives are shorter, so it makes it easier on everyone..spending 10-12 hours..on this bus, plush as it is.. its still a fuckin submarine.. and you still wanna get off.. so why don't we hurry this along.. so we can all get off the bus...
J - What's the set list like this tour, I've seen you guys a million times (actually this was about my 40th Ratt show)
Jizzy - Well then you've probably seen...
J - Nothing new and exciting..
Jizzy - Well ya know, everybody that is in a band like this, is forced to play the catalog.. that's just the way it is, hey say they wanna hear new songs.. and they bitch about it.. but in reality..
J - It doesn't get supported like the old stuff...
Jizzy - Well if you were to play all new stuff.. you'd be bitched at for doing that too.. so we play what the people wanna hear, and the people keep coming to hear them.. so they are not sick of them yet?
J - What's your favorite Ratt song? that's not even one of my questions....
Jizzy - ahhh.. a little spur of the moment...there's a couple of good ones.. I like "Wanted Man".. I like... uhh... I like them all, but there's a couple of them a really dig..
J - Are you doing "I'm Insane"?
Jizzy - No..
J - Ok.. were leaving.. that's my favorite.. haha
Jizzy - Well its a short set, we gotta give them the big guns..
J - Can't wait to see what the big guns are then.. hahaha
Jizzy - Look I'm sick of these double intoners...
J - Well that's about it.. except is there any new bands your into?
Jizzy - No.. I'm into old bands.. they call it classic rock, and to me that's not derogatory.. it means these songs are so good that people still like them.. I don't think anyone is going to give a shit about any of these new bands, 5 or 10 years from now.. seriously.. Mtv just kinda throws them out there like Kleenex.. they get forgotten 6 months later, so there is something very positive about a band that can 15 years later, still draw.. and have people liking the music.. that's what I dig..
Thanks again Jizzy.. it's never a dull moment when he is around.. now go buy the new c.d. damn it! And stay tuned for his big SURPRISE!
