Stephen Shareaux | Kik Tracee | December 2014 |

Last time we spoke to Stephen, it was after Kik Tracee, and he was in his

new band Revel8.. Which is an AMAZING band .. If you an find tracks

online.. Do it!

So Stephen is still rockin away! He is about to release his new solo album,

called Golden, Im listening to it as I write this interview, and as always, he

wrote and recorded some great catchy tunes!!

More about the cd when I write the review.. Until then.. Whats up in

Stephens world!!

J - Welcome back Stephen..

S - Thank you very much Jill!

J - Since Revel8.. You did a few other bands/appearances... tell us about

Nectar - 'Afterglow' ..
S - Nectar really wasn’t a band at all, it was a recording project

I did with a guy named Rick Schaffer from the band Tomorrow’s Child back in the day.

Just writing and recording, keeping the chops up if you will.

J - How would you describe that band to someone who hasn’t heard it?
S - His
music and my words and melody. Kind of an ethereal rock thing.

Is the release still available? It was never officially released, so whatever is out

there is bootlegged or put out independently by him.

J - What other bands/appearances did you do after that?

S - Well as you mentioned the only other band I put together was Revel 8. Had a lot of fun in that band, great guys and great music. Have some pretty cool videos I’m going to put up soon from those days.

J - You also did a musical called Quadrophenia .. Tell us about that... what is

it? How did you hook up with them?
S - Quadrophenia is the rock opera by The
Who which was written in 1973 by Pete Townshend and takes place in London, England in the early sixties. I played the lead of Jimmy the Mod and had an absolute blast doing so. The musical director at the time was an old friend of mine and he suggested me to the producer and the next thing I know I’m in a hotel room singing Love Reign O’er Me acapella for the suits and I landed the gig.

J - How long did it run?

S - It ran on and off for about 2 years around 2006 -2008.

J - Where was the musical running?

S - We did a number of one offs and showcases in and around the LA area, Orange County and Hollywood.

J - How is doing musicals different then being in a band?
S - Wow! So challenging
to say the least. This was my first experience with that type of show, but it felt somewhat familiar because it was more like doing a rock show with some theater added in to tell the story!

J - Is this something you see yourself doing again in the future?
S - Yes...and I
have! I recently just completed another run of a musical by Arthur Miller entitled Creation of the World and other Business. It was adapted by the same director from Quadrophenia that I had previously worked with named Pete Uribe and retitled Temptation. I played Lucifer in that piece! It’s the book of genesis basically, garden of eden, adam and eve, god and lucifer etc... Fun stuff!

J - Any other fun things you have been into and doing in the last 10 years.. ?

S - Just staying busy with the music mostly.

J - Hobbies? Besides music? What do you enjoy doing? Love spending time with my dog Huggy Bear, I enjoy golfing and playing pinball.

S - Any new bands your into these days..?
S - Haven’t been to the strip since KT was
signed I think, lol! But as far as new bands go, are there any? lol I dig BRMC, Tame Impala, Edward Sharpe, Rival Sons!

J - How do you feel about the state of music, and the lack of physical cd

sales, compared to people just taking/downloading music for free?
S - I can’t
fucking stand it to be quite frank! I’m old school and I’m so grateful for the time when I was growing up and discovering music, it felt very organic. I’m sure the kids will say the same about their experience today but I honestly dont think it comes close to comparing. Thankfully I never got into music for the money or fame etc... so I’m free to be!

J - On that note... On to your new solo cd...Whats the sound like? (Im listening to it, but how would YOU explain it to someone)
S - It’s rock and roll from the heart. It’s everything Kik Tracee was and yet
nothing like it.

J - Who wrote the music/lyrics...?

S - I wrote everything with exception of a collaboration of one song with my producer Bernie Larsen. He and I recorded the whole record together, I really look at the entire thing as one big collaboration.

J - Are the songs based on life events?

S - Absolutely! Whether I know it or not at the time they always seem to be about my life’s events.

J - How can people get the music?

S - You can find the record at all the major digital outlets. I-tunes, spotify etc...

J - How long did it take you to write Golden?

S - The oldest song I had was Between  Us, which was maybe 6 or so years old. The rest of the record was being written at the time of recording for the most part. For me sometimes it takes actually booking the studio time to finish songs if that makes any sense. This was a very effortless record to make, there was a lot of joy in the process and ideas were flowing. Really didn’t overthink too much here, just wanted the vibe and the feeling of the tune to shine, and I think we accomplished that! I’m very proud of this record and these songs.

J - Whats your favorite song on it?

S - Really hard to say! Stay has a lot of magic there, just came so easily you know. I honestly enjoy the whole record in its entirety.

J - Least favorite or just didn’t turn out like you had hoped?

S - No complaints here!

J - Any video plans?

S -Yeah I made a video for the song Stay and that can be found on you tube etc... That was directed by my buddy Kii Arens who has directed some pretty cool things over the years and I’m very grateful to him for that vid. I want to make one for Kamikaze, that’s next!

J - Any touring plans?

S - Not as of yet but not ruled out.

J - How hard is it to get seen and heard now, compared to back in the day?

S - Well most will tell you it’s much easier what with the internet and social media etc... but the fact is, there is just so much content and music out there that it makes it

difficult to be seen and heard for an artist. The bottom line for me at least in this biz

is your live performance and that will never go away. Anyone with a computer these

days can make a song but if you cant go out and perform it, well then you lost me!

J - Are you signed to any label or distribution company?

S -I am currently an independent artist. And it actually feels pretty good. lol

J - Or are you doing this all on your own?
S - Me and my otherworldly powers that be!

J - Do you use all the new online technology.. To get your info out there? Facebook? Instagram?

S - There in lies my biggest challenge because quite frankly my dear I could give a damn! Call me old school or what have you, I just don’t do much screen time. Looking to hire as we speak. lol

J -Do you have a website or somewhere fans can find all your music and

news?

S - www.StephenShareaux.com

J - That’s about it Stephen, thanks for catching us up on your last 10 years!

Anything you want to tell your fans reading this?

S - You’re very welcome Jill and thank you very much. I just want to say that I so sincerely appreciate the continued support and interest in what I’m doing not only from the old KT fans but the ever growing new ones as well. Long live rock!!! Cheers

J - Thanks again, and good luck with all you do...
